Abstract:
Dissolved view of the City of Palmdale Zoning Plan. In this dataset, the boundaries for each zoning designation extend to either a street centerline, the city boundary, or another zoning polygon. The dataset also includes polygons representing prezoned areas (those areas not within the city boundary but within the sphere of influence which have been given a pre-zone designation in case they are annexed in the future). The zoning polygons fill the entire city boundary, and when the prezones are included, fill the entire sphere of influence. The dataset was created using the zoning_overlays shapefile as a base and also the Planning Department's "blue line" zoning map as a secondary reference.

Purpose: For analysis and creating maps similar to the Planning Department's "blue line" maps. To use as a base for creating the zoning_overlays shapefile using the automated model in project number 41. To convert to the zoning_blueline.sdf/.sif files for display on the City's internal interactive MapGuide GIS Site.

Description: Modified Zoning dataset per the Planning Dept. as follows: 1) Corrected the zoning designation of a number of R-1-7,000 and R-3 parcels between 12th St East and 20th St East. 2) Extended the boundary of a C-1 designated polygon located at the northwest corner of Avenue R and 30th St East. Parcel no. 3018027020 is incorrectly drawn by the Assessor and actually extends further north and west than is shown on the parcel map. A new map has been sent to the Assessor but has not yet been recorded. This change is a temporary adjustment to make the zoning data as correct as possible. 3) Confirmed the correctness of the R-1-1 and PF parcels near the Avenue S / SR-14 interchange. Changes were already made and were correct per the Planning Dept.

Description: Devised a new ID scheme to identify the Zoning polygon features. Typed in the new IDs in the attribute table. IDs from 0 to 100 refer to zoning polygons that fall within the primary city area (including county pockets and airport land), IDs 100 and above refer to prezone polygons within the plan area (within the sphere of influence but outside the city's outer boundary), and and ID of -1 refers to any zoning polygons in which the designation is unclear. 0 and 100 are reserved for Other Jurisdiction polygon features. By establishing an organized system like this, SQL filtering can be performed using the ID (aka Key) attribute in MapGuide, if necessary.
